We're very excited at O3e, to be supporting the Kibera Cycling Club, a Red Rubber Ball Foundation partnership with the Raila Education Centre and Safari Simba.
Once the 15 bikes are built at tomorrow's Charity Bike Build team building event, they will begin their long journey to Kenya, where they will be part of a programme that provides children with reliable mentors who will teach cycling skills and bike maintenance, as well as providing nutritional advice, personal guidance and support.
This cycling club enables the children the opportunity to escape the slums and opens up employment opportunities through bike maintenance and tour guide routes. This is so valuable in an area where many children are prone to the influences of drugs, crime, glue sniffing, gangs and prostitution.
The very inspirational David Kinyah, an early stage cycling partner of Chris Froome's, heads up the Safari Simba project - as Kenya's most decorated and experienced cyclist, the children are blessed with a highly motivated and inspirational role model, who not only launched Safari Simba, but remains committed 10 years later.
A big thank you to The Red Rubber Ball Foundation for mobilising such an amazing initiative. We feel very privileged to be involved.
